Article in short

  • PGF Terminals operates Vaggeryd’s intermodal terminal, strategically located near major roads and logistics hubs.

  • With capacity for long trains and flexible handling, the terminal supports seamless rail and road integration.

  • Five roundtrips per week currently run to and from the Port of Gothenburg with room to grow.

  • PGF also offers container maintenance, repairs, and full end-to-end logistics solutions.

  • Direct rail connections to the port are vital for customers in the region, enabling cost-effective and sustainable global trade.

Medi Raci has worked in logistics for over 20 years and is now Terminal Manager at PGF Terminals, which operates the intermodal terminal in Vaggeryd (with a postal address in Skillingaryd).

“PGF Terminals provides intermodal transport services for customers in the GGVV region. If you ask me, I’d say we’re the region’s leading terminal for intermodal transport.”

GGVV stands for Gislaved, Gnosjö, Vaggeryd, and Värnamo. The spirit of entrepreneurship is strong here, and Vaggeryd’s location is a key advantage when it comes to turning business momentum into smart and efficient logistics solutions.

“Our facility is strategically placed, close to the E4 highway and major customers and distribution centers, which makes it easy to transfer cargo between rail and road. We have three 700-meter tracks and a 125-meter service track, giving us the capacity to handle both long trains and specialized freight flows,” says Medi Raci.

“PGF offers full-service solutions where cargo is delivered all the way from the rail terminal to the final customer, thanks to long-term partnerships with local and international trucking companies. This allows customers to focus on production while we take care of the rest.”

Together with his team – whose energy and teamwork you’ll quickly notice if you visit – he manages five train loops per week. The terminal has approval for ten, and both Medi and PGF are eager and able to grow.

“We have access to eleven hectares of operational space, so we can expand quickly if needed. This gives us the ability to increase capacity by thousands of containers.”

Besides train traffic, the terminal offers M&R (Maintenance & Repair) for containers to ensure they are approved for general cargo, as well as to meet additional customer needs.

The idea that rail transport means delays is not one Medi Raci agrees with.

“It works well. If something happens, we recover quickly and have great flexibility with our own wagons and tracks. Plus, it’s unbeatable in terms of sustainability.”

"For many cargo owners, the inland-port connection is the deciding factor in whether they can compete globally. The trains to and from Gothenburg save time, money, and reduce climate impact."

Looking ahead, he eagerly awaits the approved electrification of the railway stretch between Skillingaryd and Värnamo. This will strengthen the terminal even further, and in the meantime, local steps are being taken. All terminal vehicles already run on HVO, and Medi is exploring options to electrify even more as soon as possible.

“We’re moving toward a greener world. I do my best to educate and raise awareness that things can be done better – and cheaper.”

A recent example: a customer invited them to a phase-2 planning meeting. “That’s very encouraging,” he says. “Sometimes there are bigger factors than price.”

He considers himself lucky to work in the GGVV region. The area has strong political will, ambitious companies and direct rail service to and from the Port of Gothenburg.

“The direct trains to Gothenburg are absolutely critical for us. Gothenburg is Sweden’s gateway to the world, and I see the trains as the lifeblood of the GGVV region’s industry. Our customers must reach global markets quickly, cost-effectively, and sustainably. Without these trains, it wouldn’t be possible.”

“For many cargo owners, the inland-port connection is the deciding factor in whether they can compete globally. The trains to and from Gothenburg save time, money, and reduce climate impact. Having a terminal here isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity.”

When asked if he has a message for cargo owners, his answer is immediate:
“Think green. With trains, you can move more, with greater reliability, and lower environmental impact.”
