Part of South Korea’s LG Group, LX Pantos is one of the world’s leading logistics players. With sustainability as a key driver, rail transport is the obvious choice. Here, Primus Kibuh shares how trains reduce costs, lead times, and emissions.

The company calls for more rail infrastructure investments to meet rising demand and support long-term environmental goals.
LX Pantos is part of LG Group, the South Korean giant known for everything from consumer electronics to energy solutions. LX Pantos is also one of the world’s largest logistics companies.
“We work with ocean freight, air freight, contract logistics, project cargo, e-commerce, and road transport,” says Primus Kibuh at LX Pantos.
Naturally, sustainability is of huge importance, and the company has a dedicated sustainability department. But for them, the issue is about more than just meeting customer demands.
“I don’t think it’s about customers, it’s about what the world expects from companies in terms of sustainability investments. This has always been an important issue for us. It’s about proactively showing how we can contribute to reducing carbon emissions,” says Primus Kibuh.
Rail is an obvious part of a climate-smart logistics chain, offering a number of advantages that make it a clear choice for their customers.
“Three things are especially important to us: cost, lead time, and the environment. Compared to road transport, rail offers a savings of around 40 percent. We also save time. And finally, emissions are significantly lower,” he summarizes.
He also takes a different view on reliability, which he feels is often unfairly biased in favor of road transport.
“When it comes to transport, things happen. Most people complain about trains but forget what it’s like to be stuck in traffic. What’s important is that goods don’t arrive late, and that’s something you can avoid with proactive partners. Take PGF, for example. If a train is delayed, we’re informed. That lets us talk to customers, make new plans, and ensure deliveries are still on time.”
He’s optimistic about the future of rail, particularly because the environment makes it inevitable. Larger investments are needed, and one of them is happening now in the Vaggeryd area with new rail segments. Direct trains to and from the Port of Gothenburg align perfectly with his vision.
“The Port of Gothenburg is Sweden’s gateway to the world. It handles more cargo than any other port, so it’s incredibly important, not just for us, but for Sweden and Swedish industry.”
Direct lines from Asia to Gothenburg are a great advantage for LX Pantos. And as Gothenburg grows and handles more containers, it helps LX Pantos meet customer expectations around lead times, quality, and cost.
Ultimately, it’s up to policymakers to invest in infrastructure, but the benefits of rail are obvious.
“Trains are essential for long distances because they handle larger volumes. Trucks take over for the last mile. We might receive 100 containers in a week. If they all came by truck, it would be more expensive and worse for the environment. That’s why direct trains from the Port of Gothenburg are vital.”
Primus Kibuh remains upbeat and concludes with a smile:
“I think the entire conversation around sustainability and the environment has become global. And that’s putting real pressure on politicians to act.”
