"The closest port isn’t always the best port"
Eskilstuna Logistik knows that it’s not about the shortest distance—it’s about the best flow. Pär Svensson explains why the Port of Gothenburg is their top choice and how the partnership strengthens the entire region.

Pär Svensson, Logistics Developer at Eskilstuna Logistik och Etablering AB, is optimistic about the future.
- When businesses consider setting up operations, it’s all about location, location, location. And we have a fantastic location, with over four million consumers within an hour’s reach, generating a strong inflow of products. Given the proximity to industrial companies in Mälardalen and Bergslagen, we also have strong export customers shipping goods in the other direction.
Eskilstuna benefits from Stockholm’s continued growth, attracting new establishments. Yet despite its proximity to the capital, Svensson has a clear connection to Sweden’s second city.
- It all started when H&M wanted to establish a presence here and required a direct connection to Gothenburg. That’s when we made the decision: Gothenburg would be our focus. That’s where the largest freight flows are—and it’s the largest port in the Nordics.
Svensson emphasizes that the collaboration with the Port of Gothenburg and operators has been key.
- It’s an exciting development ahead. When Stena relocates its RoPax traffic, volumes will increase further, making Gothenburg even more attractive for rail and intermodal transport.
He is convinced that the strong regional growth will lead to a significant increase in the two existing connections to Gothenburg.
The best thing that could happen is more direct calls to Gothenburg. That would increase rail volumes, and we have a region ready to both receive and ship even more cargo.
