Securing access to the world
Timeline
Bid Submission
Suppliers have until September 1, 2025, to submit their offers, after which the evaluation and assignment of the contract will take place.
Start of Dredging
The dredging work is scheduled to begin in August 2026 and is expected to last approximately 1.5 years.
Complementary Port Works
Meanwhile, reinforcements to the Skandia Harbour will continue, with Gothenburg Port Authority collaborating with NCC to adapt the port for larger and heavier vessel loads.
The procurement process has now begun for one of Sweden's largest dredging operations in over two decades. The Swedish Maritime Administration and Gothenburg Port Authority are seeking a dredging contractor for the Skandia Gateway project. The Skandia Harbour will be deepened, and the fairway will be widened to accommodate fully loaded calls from the world’s largest container vessels, ensuring Sweden’s industries maintain access to global markets.
In total, approximately 9 million cubic meters of dredged material will be handled, and 12 new beacons will be constructed to enhance fairway marking. The procurement is expected to attract significant interest from the dredging industry, and the Swedish Maritime Administration’s Project Manager Jenny Röström is optimistic.
