    During the winter of 2028, the new fairway in the Skandia Port can be brought into operation. The fairway is deepened and the western quay position is completed.

  • Quay construction completed

    Quay construction in the Skandia Port is expected to be completed in February 2028.

  • Dredging of fairway begins

    The Swedish Maritime Administration plans to begin dredging in Q3 2027.

    Blasting and dredging works will take place during the dredging season from October 2026 through March 2027.

  • Contract for fairway dredging 

    The Swedish Maritime Administration plans to sign a contract with a dredging contractor for the fairway.

  • Terminal area handed over

    On 1 June, 16,000 m² of terminal space will be handed back to APM Terminals, operator of the Skandia Port.

  • Corporate Port Entity signs dredging contract

    The Port of Gothenburg signs an agreement with a contractor to carry out blasting and dredging works at the quay in the Skandia Port.

  • Procurement of dredging contractor initiated

    The Swedish Maritime Administration initiated the procurement process for a dredging contractor.

  • NCC establishes project organisation

    In February 2024, NCC began work on quay improvements.

  • Approval from the EU

    The EU approves the fairway deepening in the Port of Gothenburg, and NCC is commissioned for quay construction.

  • Project cost determined

    A target cost is agreed, and NCC is commissioned to begin construction.

    NOVEMBER 2022

The Port of Gothenburg is the only port in Sweden that can receive the world’s largest vessels. At present they are unable to do so fully loaded. To address this problem and ensure Swedish industry is able to meet the demands of the future, extensive deepening of the fairway is required. The project, known as Skandia Gateway, is being run jointly by the Swedish Maritime Administration and the Port of Gothenburg.
