Many Swedes remember the price wars in the electronics retail sector. One of the big winners is Power, with its central warehouse located in Skillingaryd and operated by a separate group company, Power International Logistics AB.

“We have a building of around 110,000 square meters, from which we distribute goods to all Power stores, franchisees, and end customers across the Nordics,” says the company’s CEO, Ulrika Onselius.

That means shipments go to roughly 270 stores, but the warehouse also handles thousands of web orders and home deliveries. For now, Ulrika is satisfied with the size, with the latest 20,000 square meters completed in September 2024. The focus is now on automation and optimization.

A large portion of goods arrive by train from the Port of Gothenburg. And the terminal in Båramo is just a stone’s throw from Ulrika’s office.

“We see a great advantage in having a terminal so close. It gives us a lot of flexibility, which is key when we receive an average of six to ten containers per day, mostly from Asia.”

Power even has its own railway spur connecting directly to the warehouse, though it’s temporarily out of use due to recent expansion. Besides inbound flows from Gothenburg, some outbound shipments, especially to northern Sweden, are also sent by rail.

If something does go wrong, they can rely on help from a good neighbor – PGF Terminals.

“We have a great partnership. The proximity means we can quickly solve issues when disruptions occur. It also helps us reprioritize our flows on a daily basis.”

If a truck delivery is delayed, for example, they can simply request a container from the terminal instead. No downtime, and the short distance makes it easy.

“We help each other optimize operations and stay in close dialogue with shared documents and routines,” Ulrika says.

She also points out another benefit of rail.

“With trains, you’re not as dependent on what happens on the road. Even in bad weather, rail keeps running with minimal disruptions.”

Each year, around 1,700 containers pass through Båramo on their way to Power, that’s a lot of truckloads never clogging highways.

Direct rail connections from the Port of Gothenburg to Vaggeryd are another big plus.

“Direct trains are incredibly important – not least because they bring the goods straight here. We also have a few free days where containers can sit at the terminal before we take them in. If we have capacity, we can bring them in sooner. If not, they can wait. That’s how we maintain flow consistency, one of the most important things in logistics,” says Ulrika.

She would like to see a more flexible railway system.

“We serve private consumers, and that demand can be unpredictable. More flexibility would help us better match transport schedules to varying volumes.”

Hydrogen-powered trucks and the ability to send multiple rail shipments to stores and customers are also on her wishlist.

Most of Power’s products arrive by sea from Asia. Here too, flexibility and cost efficiency are key.

“If we couldn’t ship to the Port of Gothenburg, costs would rise significantly. It’s a huge advantage that the containers are then loaded onto railcars and delivered practically to our doorstep. That’s what I call full delivery,” she concludes.
